drinking and drawning
Video installation, two channel, size variable, duration 5:35 minutes, 2003
“Normally drinking of water follows short breaths (above a surface of water) during the drowning the body or rather the head is submerged in liquid but mostly water”…Meyers Dictionary, 1894
What happens between drinking and drowning? What different perception of colours, movements and sounds arise underwater in relation to the above? The constant moving water surface, which divides the underwater world and the world above and forms the space between drinking and drowning. In the first film I am up to my neck in water. The water level not only separated above and below, but also the body from the head. The second cut separates the fast and slow motions.
Sudden swallowing becomes a fearful experience. The sound relates to the pictures of drinking and drowning.
